This hands-on session shows teachers how to get the students use critical reading strategies to engage with literature and how to use these strategies to enhance classroom activities. The texts used in the session are appropriate for grades 5-8; the strategies are appropriate for grades 2-12.

By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Engage students in the process of reading and literary study
- Improve student reading and depth of understanding
- Use techniques that encourage students to take control of their learning while teaching prescribed texts
