By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Use strategies to engage students in creative yet purposeful mathematical thinking
- Use Number Talks in a lesson, with provided resources, to enhance the prescribed curriculum
- Develop routines and strategies which will help support student thinking

Brief description:
Number Talks are ten to fifteen minute discussions that take place in the classroom about purposefully designed computation problems. During Number Talks, students are asked to explore and solve problems without the use of manipulatives. An emphasis is placed on explaining and justifying solutions. These exchanges lead to the development of more accurate, efficient and flexible computational strategies.
